One day before the parliamentary debate and the crucial vote on Thursday for the recommendation of a preliminary commission, the Lagarde list scandal is obscured by the admission of former SDOE chief Yannis Diotis that he destroyed the USB received from former finmin Yorgos Papakonstantinou.
So, after the disappearance of the original CD with the names of Greek major depositors at HSBC Geneva from Papakonstantinou, this second case of destruction of usable data multiplies the questions about the purposefulness that may be concealed by the array of all these unexplained moves and mainly the known alteration to the contents of the list, which reached the hands of the supervisory authorities.
The big challenge in this scandal remains the identification of the perpetrators that altered the contents of the original CD, removing the names of Papakonstantinou’s relatives and possibly of others, thus probably losing some trace associated with persons that were included in the list.
In the statement sent to the public prosecutors, Diotis argues that he had no motive to alter the list and that when he was handed the stick he did not get a mandate for an investigation by then Finance minister, which his predecessor in SDOE Yannis Kapeleris also testified.
However, these claims by the former prosecutor do not justify his actions, especially the deletion of data from the USB received from Papakonstantinou and supplying a copy to his new political boss Evangelos Venizelos.
It is now clear that the economic prosecutors that continue their judicial inquiry, as well as the preliminary committee that will follow in investigating the case in the coming days

, have a copy of the copy of the list at their disposal.
This makes it even more imperative to conduct immediate on-the-spot investigations and extensive testing by computer experts from the finmin’s office and SDOE, to seek the truth and identify the course the list took.
“Fake” fights in parliament
Meanwhile, the controversy in parliament continues about the number of ballot boxes to be set up on Thursday after the discussion on the three proposals for the establishment of a criminal committee: of the coalition government with Papakonstantinou as the charged person, of SYRIZA who is also seeking the prosecution of PASOK president Venizelos, and of the Independent Greeks and Golden Dawn team-up who are accusing former prime ministers Yorgos Papandreou and Lucas Papademos as well.
The final decision on whether there will be three polls, as the indictment proposals as supported by members from the coalition, or four, one for each charged person, as requested by opposition members, is expected to be made by the conference of parliament presidents and in case of disagreements, the final decision will be made by the parliamentary plenary assembly.
