ND – SYRIZA fight over the arson attacks

The continued attacks with gas canisters and Molotov bombs against political party offices, banks, houses of journalists and at the house of the government spokesman’s brother are escalating political confrontation between the Greek government and its opposition.

In an announcement, ND linked directly the action of unidentified arsonists with SYRIZA, while the opposition has strongly condemned the attacks and spoken of provocation, whereas the gas canisters are aimed at obstructing the Left.

«The condemnation of these recent bombings must be a unanimous one by all parties. The attempt to terrorize the political world falls into a vacuum,» the ND statement reads about the attack that took place yesterday evening at the family home of Simos Kedikoglou’s brother.

ND also said that «it is certain now that after SYRIZA targeted the press, this was followed by the attacks against journalists. When it targeted New Democracy, these unknown individuals attacked the offices of the party and after he called the government spokesman Goebbels and his statements those of an informer, it was the turn of his close relative to be attacked.»

«Every minute that SYRIZA retains in its ranks MPs who say that “anarchy is democracy,” that its MPs have masks and wooden planks at home and declare solidarity with Villa Amalia, then the party must assume its responsibilities," the ND statement mentions.

SYRIZA: We will stand against the gas canister attacks to the end

From Berlin where he is escorting Tsipras, the main opposition leader’s office manager Nikos Pappas condemned the tactic of bombings.

«We will stand against the gas canister attacks to the end. Human life will not get yoked. If they have a political aim, it is to halt the Left,» Pappas wrote in a message on twitter, leaving indirect hints that the gas canister attacks could be provocation acts to implicate SYRIZA.

A little earlier, SYRIZA parliamentary spokesman Dimitris Papadimoulis had said «indiscriminate violence and gas canister attacks do not affect the memorandum government. It exploits them. It is afraid of the people’s peaceful uprising so it throws mud on SYRIZA’s face.»

Commenting on Samaras' position that «SYRIZA operates as a marginal party,» Papadimoulis accused him of slandering the main opposition party.

Simos Kedikoglou: Democracy will not be terrorized

In response to the arson attack at the home of his brother, the government spokesman said that «by targeting relatives and young children, the preachers of violence only manage to strengthen our will. The entire political world must unequivocally and without exception condemn the attempt to diffuse terror. Democracy will not be terrorized.»
