Y. Papantoniou’s wife on Lagarde list

Yannos Papantoniou, former Finance and Defense minister in Simitis’ governments, will be audited by the financial statement parliamentary committee, as was decided due to a letter from the financial prosecutor Grigoris Peponis and the revelation that Papantoniou’s wife, Stavroula Kourakou, is on Lagarde’s list of depositors in Swiss banks. Announcement by the committee of Article 21 of L.3023/2002 for the Control of the Finances of Parties and Political Entities

During yesterday's meeting of the committee of Article 21 of L.3023/2002 for the Control of the Finances of Parties and Political Entities, the members of the committee were informed of a letter from Economic Crime prosecutor Grigoris Peponis, which informs the committee that the current inspection of Lagarde’s list identified the name of Stavroula Kourakou, wife of former minister Yannos Papantoniou, enclosing bank account information from a printed part of the above list.

The committee unanimously instructed statutory auditors to immediately submit an official finding by carrying out the anticipated retrospective review according to L.4065/2012. Upon completion of the finding, the committee will notify the interested parties and seek clarifications and explanations from them within twenty days, as required by law.

On October 27, when HOTDOC magazine uncovered the 2,059 Greeks with deposits at the HSBC branch in Geneva, the name of the former minister’s wife was at number 919 in the list. «Kourakou Stavroula, Businesswoman», read the specific record. Protothema.gr had contacted a person in Papantoniou’s environment, who had said "no connection. If the name is really there, it is obviously not of the wife of the former minister."
