Troika asks for new hike of 150 euros for landlords

Finance minister Yannis Stournaras went to the meeting of political leaders with a new poll tax.

For the first time Venizelos and Kouvelis heard about taxes that will bring an additional 2 billion to the state, in addition to the package of 11.8 billion euros.

The tax that will reach 150 euros is proposed for inclusion in all properties for freelancers, for those who rent out real estate property and for those who have private businesses.

According to information, the 150 euros will have a horizontal sense, since they will not relate to the assets of those who will be asked to pay. So if one has ten properties which they are renting, they will pay the same tax as someone who has only one.

The opinion of the PASOK president of s that this measure "kills the prospect of a national tax plan." Stournaras analyzed the tax measure, but no particular decision was made. Venizelos returned to his earlier request to implement these measures in two 2-year periods. If during the first two years the goal regarding the deficit is achieved, then the government should reduce the measures for the second two-year period.


Stournaras’ reply to PASOK about the poll tax

A member of the Finance ministry confirmed the plans to impose the poll tax and other measures aimed at 2 billion euros, saying "we are studying the modernization of the tax system to strike against major tax fraud. Our aim is to build a simple and permanent system to distribute the tax burden fairly and close the holes in the current tax system, which is full of holes. What we heard in Stournaras’ proposal was but one example of what very low taxation could yield to make it easily understood that an upward escalation could generate even more revenue in a fairer way."
