Disloyal and inefficient employees will be put on reserve

Disloyal civil servants and those who provoke by exploiting their position but remain unpunished by the disciplinary councils, will be put on reserve based on priority. According to reports, the Finance ministry has asked the minister of Administrative Reform Antonis Manitakis and inspector general of Public Administration Leandros Rakintzis to give figures on the number and type of cases of delinquent conduct of public officials who are currently on pending status.

Last year alone Rakintzis received 1,900 decisions in his office and the inspector general had made statements on sentences that were too lenient, on incorrect assessment of evidence etc. Rakintzis had submitted objections and even requested the speeding up of the disciplinary process for 388 other cases. The prime minister is enraged by the discovery of the illegal industry of pensions and benefits and asked the ministers to impose sanctions as soon as possible on the employees involved. The goal is for the State to stop paying their salaries immediately and put the inefficient employees who harmed its interests on reserve status. All those involved in these cases will be removed from the public sector, but until final decisions are issued their payroll will be cut by a special setting provided for in the new redundancy regulation.

It should be noted that although the disciplinary councils, with the participation of justice officials, should have been up and running for two months now, most of them are yet to be established. The vast majority of penalties for misconduct and serious violations by civil servants continues to be imposed by the old councils that include unionists as well.
