Dendias: The control of illegal immigration is a question of national survival

In a meeting with public bodies in Thrace, Public Order minister Nikos Dendias attempted to calm the responses of some Xanthi and Komotini residents on the occasion of immigrants being moved to the local police academies.

He assured them that the current situation is temporary and there is no intention on the part of the ministry to abolish the police academies.

"The police academies are legal and the actual property of the Greek Police, and I am not the one to take them away from it."

Dendias asked for the support of the representatives of the Thrace public bodies and its local government in tackling a phenomenon that threatens to destroy the country, and even appealed to their patriotism and the simple survival instinct of the Greek citizen.

He concluded by saying "we cannot accept the Greek cities being occupied and turned into illegal immigrant ghettos, where they themselves are victims of exploitation and in turn become the causes of crime and of any form of threat to society and the way of life of the Greek citizens."
