The second robber, also of Albanian origin, who invaded the home of PAOK coach Giorgos Donis on Zitsis Street on Thursday afternoon, was arrested shortly before 18.00 following a SWAT operation.

The perpetrator, who was injured, was hiding in a house on Theotokopoulou street which police had identified. When police attempted to enter the house, the perpetrator jumped into the backyard and fell into the hands of other officers who had surrounded the house.

The robber was taken to hospital while his accomplice, a 27-year-old Albanian, had been arrested earlier and transported to Police HQ, where he is being interrogated.

The chase began at noon, when police identified the suspects who tried to break into Giorgos Donis' house.

A few meters away from the home of the famous coach is the home of Giorgos Papakonstantinou, and the robbers were noticed by the officer who guarded the house of the former minister. The guard immediately alerted Police and soon DIAS group members were at the scene.

When they tried to arrest them the robbers tried to escape, opening fire against police offices and injuring a sergeant in the leg.

Police fired back and injured one of the robbers.

According to preliminary information, the robbers took hostage the father-in-law of the coach, who was at the house at the time and whom they released a few minutes later near the Kokinara stream. At the time of the robbery, Giorgos Donis' two children were also inside the house, as well as his wife.

Earlier, at the church of Panagia Eleftherotria, police found the jewelry the thieves had taken from the house and blood stains from the injured bandit.

Please note that Giorgos Donis' house has been targeted for the third time in the last six months. The PAOK coach, who is in Thessaloniki these days, was immediately informed about the incident and rushed back to Athens to be close to his family.
