Dora Bakoyannis on her way back to ND

Intense lobbying of contacts is underway in the last hours, which is aimed at returning members - for any reason - to the New Democracy party. The relative mobility began to grow after the invitation sent by Antonis Samaras two days after the May 6th elections.

According to reliable information on protothema.gr, during the past few days there have been specific initiatives undertaken to bring Syngrou avenue closer to George Karatzaferis, Dora Bakoyannis and Stephanos Manos.

In this context, and after having completed preliminary actions, well informed sources state that there is a good chance that we will see - in the immediate future - direct contact between the ND president and his counterparts from smaller center-right parties.

According to the same information, an agreement in principle for the return of Ms. Dora Bakoyannis to the New Democracy party is regarded as a done deal, and it is characteristic that meetings are continuously taking place at the offices of the Democratic Alliance, at top level.

Of course, it should be noted that there are executives within the Democratic Alliance party, such as Dimitris Zafiriadis and Theodore Skilakakis, who would prefer the establishment of a liberal front with Stefanos Manos.

However, it is no coincidence that a short while ago, ND MP Kiriakos Mitsotakis, speaking on state radio, stated that he is in favour of the return of all those who were outside the party.

“I consider it necessary and feasible. We should all step aside and overcome personal differences, because I do not think that there existed such profound ideological differences, ND can be reunited, executives and party associations which in the past had been differentiated but had a clear pro-european and liberal ideological approach can also be united. I believe this is necessary and must be done soon, meaning within next week, and we should practice what we have wanted to happen for a long time now, the long gradual unification of the center-right movement…” stated Mr. Mitsotakis.

Former minister Vangelis Meimarakis plays an active role in lobbying, as well as ND VP Dimitris Avramopoulos. The former had received the authorization to make initial contact with Dora Bakoyannis, while the latter approached George Karatzaferis.
