UPD:
The attempt to recruit a government assembly seems to have failed repeatedly, since on one hand, the Democratic Left set as a condition SYRIZA’s participation in the ecumenical option, while on Koumoundourou street they seem to have categorically rejected the prospect.
PM Lucas Papademos had an urgent meeting with the President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias at the Presidential Palace and, obviously, the focus was on political developments followed anxiously by the public, 60% of which would, according to a new survey, wish the establishment of a coalition government.
Approaching the Presidential Palace, Mr. Papademos stated that the President would be informed on external policy and financial issues which require immediate treatment.
Indeed, the two men had a short dialogue in front of reporters: “How are you, Mr. President”, asked the PM, only to receive the answer “As far as things go”…
Political observers state that it is a given that the state’s two top players were concerned by the worry which is escalating, based on European officials statements, about the possibility of the country abandoning the euro.
The question of repayment was also raised, as well as the consequences of the bond of 435 million which expires on May 15th and the representation of the country in the critical NATO Summit of May 23rd.
