Government coalition benefits PASOK and not the people
At the election rally in Zappeio, ND president Antonis Samaras called for "a strong mandate to change everything and rule without compromise."...
He attacked his political opponents and described with clarity his goal for the upcoming elections. "I don’t want to govern with PASOK and this is not in the interests of the Greek people, but only in PASOK's. If we formed a government with PASOK, we would be prisoners of their own politics. What we need is stability, a strong mandate and a strong government to go ahead. Even the small parties want a coalition government so they can denounce it."
Once again he attacked the "Independent Greeks", saying that "new formations that are not with the Left, and I say this directly, are just PASOK’s waterboys. And there are the Nazi supporters, who descended in the elections without showing their candidates. As a Greek I do not accept the Nazi flag in the Greek parliament. Isolate them."
"Everyone else around us is stuck in the past. PASOK in petty political calculations, the Left in its obsessions, the new small parties are trying to survive and accuse everyone else. For two years they have been fighting us constantly while they eventually come to agree with our words. For two years we have voted for anything that is good for the country."
Samaras placed development at the forefront and said that "when we first talked about development they called us Harry Potter. When talking about development measures I was alone in Greece and now everyone abroad is talking about them."
Regarding illegal immigration, he said "they did not want to hear a single word about illegal immigrants. Two years ago I had two opponents, the PASOK memorandum that closed shops and sent thousands of Greeks into unemployment and the Left, which drove away investments and tourists, closed businesses and embraced hoodlums."
He referred again to his stance since last November. "Papandreou’s disastrous choice of a referendum isolated us from Europe. Papandreou left, now it is time for PASOK to leave as well. Venizelos now has the gall to accuse me of wanting to become prime minister. If I wanted to become prime minister at any cost I would have let him destroy the country last November and win the elections with 60%. Our plan is simple: Recovery, Social Coherence, Development and Security. Recovery, that is to stop the recession, and social cohesion for correcting extreme inequities. We will restore the sense of certainty to the Greek people. Growth for us means competitiveness above all. And competitiveness means reducing taxes."
Finally, Samaras said, "I believe in Greece, I believe in Greeks. We do not supply Greeks with fake dilemmas but unite them under common ideals. Our faction will establish a new political system, a democratic and productive regeneration of Greece. We ask that we govern with the mandate of the Greek people, not with the blessing of backstage moves and vested interests. Give us the strength of a Nation to change the fate of the motherland."
