13th salary saved, 14th salary cut

The final countdown for the political leaders has begun and thus Lucas Papademos, George Papandreou, Antonis Samaras and Yiorgos Karatzaferis will most probably get together on Saturday afternoon.

By that time, the two texts to be discussed among them will have been finished and taken care of to the very last detail.

One of them regards the debt haircut with the support of the ECB, so that bank re-capitalization does not hand control over to the public sector.

The other one will contain the necessary actions, such as the slashing of the Easter and holiday bonuses, the three-year wage freeze in the private sector and more.

The aforementioned texts will be presented to the leaders as an ultimatum. They will either agree, making sure they see the proposals passed in parliament (in the form of laws) or the government falls, the country goes to early polls and possibly also to a state of default.

It was only yesterday that the GSEE workers' umbrella union and the employers agreed not to cut the lowest salaries, or the 13th and 14th ones, of workers employed in the private sector.
