Venizelos making a move for the PASOK presidency

Evangelos Venizelos is proceeding with claiming the presidency of the PASOK Parliamentary Group with the support of Andreas Loverdos. The two men, confirming the story that was published earlier on protothema.gr, “decided to fight the good fight together”, as was characteristically mentioned in their common statements at the Finance Ministry.

Health Minister Andreas Loverdos, having the Vice-President and Minister of Finance by his side, stated that: “we decided to move forward together”, adding that he will further explain his position soon.

He described the move as “a substantive initiative to help PASOK stand upright”.

On his part, Mr. Venizelos stated that “PASOK has suffered unprecedented damage”, noting that “with today’s initiative we want to change the current internal PASOK rhythm”.

He meaningfully added, in relation to the overall negotiation with the Troika on the new loan agreement and the “haircut” of the debt, that: “It is logical that our partners need some political guarantees”.

According to recent information, Mr. Loverdos and Mr. Venizelos may meet with the PASOK president on Wednesday.

Rapid developments in PASOK, with a view to convening the Parliamentary Group on Thursday.

As protothema.gr is informed, the Vice-President and Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos and Minister of Health Mr. Andreas Loverdos will essentially present a common, unifying front for the day after in the party, given the gravity and the circumstances in the country.

The two men will make a statement very soon at the main building of the Ministry of Finance in Syntagma and according to the same information, the mood will not be aggressive towards the president of PASOK who, of course is the focus of current criticism on the occasion of his frequent absences.
