Due to severe snowstorms and strong winds, western Macedonia and Epirus are experiencing transportation problem.

Due to severe snowstorms and strong winds, western Macedonia and Epirus are experiencing transportation problem.
Traffic has been turned Egnatia from the Koila intersection up to Kalamia in Grevena, and is being diverted by turns only on one route - toward Grevena - as the route toward Kozani has been blocked by masses of snow carried by strong winds.
Trucks are prohibited from moving on Egnatia from the Panaghis intersection up to Siatista, and along the Grevena-Trikala highway from the 1st to the 39th kilometer.
Traffic all over the provincial and national network of the Kozani, Kastoria and Florina prefectures is only allowed with tyre chains.
Shipping routes are running normally today, Saturday, from the ports of Piraeus, Rafina and Lavrio, after the extreme weather conditions that hit the country on Friday.
Nonetheless, the ferry routes at Patra-Kefalonia, Zakynthos-Killini and Killini-Kefalonia are still closed due to high winds, and there are no routes onn Prinos-Kavala. Rio-Antirrio is running normally.

The weather forecast for today and tomorrow predicts a gradual decline of the bad weather from the west, with adecrease of high winds and a significant drop in temperature throughout the country.

The municipality of Andritsaina-Krestena is on full alert after the wave of fierce storms, with particular attention paid to the Alfeios river, whose flow is continuously being monitored. Large quantities of logs and other debris that obstruct the smooth flow of water have accumulated at the Floca dam. The weather predictions speak of worse conditions from Sunday night onwards and have tocal authorities on their feet
Evros is ready in case of floods
The municipality and regional services of eastern Macedonia and Thrace have been on alert since Saturday morning concerning the possibility of a water level increase in the Arda and Erythropotamos rivers because of the overflow at the Ivailovgrad dam in Bulgaria.
Meanwhile, and as a precautionary measure, the authorities have alerted farmers, breeders and fishermen in the municipalities of Didymoteicho and Orestiadaabout not approaching the banks of the two rivers and removing promptly all animals, machinery and equipment from the dangerous areas.
“Tsunami” waves in Tinos
More than 35 cars were damaged in Tinos from the giant waves that hit the port on Friday. Due to high winds, huge waves dragged the cars that were parked at the pier.
Extreme phenomena occurred in Patras too, where seawater flooded the streets of the city. Yesterday’s stormy winds formed big waves in the Patran gulf and flooded the coastal areas of Itea, Patra and Rio.
Police proceeded to divert the traffic from the coastal roads, and in some cases the sea rushed into buildings. Fishing vessels were swept away at the Patras wharf and marina. the strong winds that were blowing in the area caused the falling of trees and damage to several rooftops.
