Vatopedi Monastery -“Prison” for Ephraim

Abbot Ephraim remains bedridden and heavily guarded in his cell at the Vatopedi Monastery as according to the governor of the Abbey, Aristos Kasmiroglou, he has been running a high temperature and has diabetes problems.

The district attorney from Thessaloniki, who visited him together with the police chief of the prefecture the Abbey belongs to, decided than since the Abbot cannot be moved due to his condition, he should remain “imprisoned” in his Monastery cell.

All recent developments will be discussed on Monday at the meeting of the Holy Community.

Ephraim’s lawyer said that the Abbot will give himself up within the next few days, but first he will have to recover fully and also put all his Abbey affairs in order so as to secure that its operation will be undisrupted during his absence.
