Towards an agreement with Papademos

Rumors are rampat about a meeting or contact between Papandreou and Loukas Papademos. According to reports the former governor of the BoG and former vice president of the ECB acquires new prominence for the PM post by decision of the two major parties.

Reportedly, Papandreou has, or will convey to Papademos the changing attitude of ND and its agreement to strengthen the new government with politicians. The PM, who will leave his house in Kastri for the parliament at about 11:30am in order to chair the cabinet meeting, is trying to close the deal with Antonis Samaras and his successor. If Loukas Papademos refuses, Panagiotis Roumeliotis is already in Athens.

According to information, the candidacy of the representative of Greece to the IMF is weakened, but he might gain ground again regarding the position of transitional prime minister should the negotiations with Papademos have a negative outcome.

Today’s important development is the change in ND’s attitude, which agreed to staff the new government of the next 105 days with politicians. The names of candidates are still unknown, but it is likely that ND members will take on the portfolios of the Ministries of Interior, Defence, Citizen Protection, Justice and the position of government spokesman, all posts that Samaras asked to be rid of the current PASOK ministers.
