Workers in blue buses, trolleys, the metro and trams have decided upon a
new 24hr strike for tomorrow, Tuesday, while ISAP workers will carry
out a 4hr work stoppage from 12 noon.
Protests will continue on Wednesday and Thursday with the strikes of suburban KTEL employees, and will soon be followed by taxi and truck owners, who continue their opposition to the infrastructure ministry’s policy on the deregulation of their professions.
Regarding KTEL however, and despite the protests, their routes will run normally on Wednesday and Thursday, as their owners, who represent 90% of all employees, will work normally.
The Panhellenic Federation of Intercity Automobile Transport notes in its statement: "Amid the economic crisis with radical changes in our country and the sacrifices from the Greek people, it is inconceivable for the Federation of Trade Unions in Transport (OSME) to require increases in the salaries of KTEL staff, who continue to be paid normally, without cuts, while their colleagues in the public sector have received significant reductions in salaries and allowances."
