How can someone steal a million euros from the airport?

Police officials are trying to draft the profile of the robber in order to solve the cinematic theft that took place yesterday, Sunday. The surveillance cameras at Eleftherios Venizelos airport have recorded the thief in the blue overalls carrying a tool-kit, and officers say that soon enough his identity will be revealed.

“This is a pretty weird case. We are looking into the unidentified call on Friday whereby the bank employees were informed about the supposed renovation. We are trying to understand the reasons the thief did not care about his face being recorded by the dozens of airport security cameras - perhaps because he had altered his facial characteristics…”, one officer tells protothema.gr.

Police are trying to decode some details that apparently were known to the thief. For example, there is the fact that such a large amount of money would be in the safe and that employees would not inform central offices about the call and the renovation.

However, the whole thing has caused upheaval in the higher ranks of the citizen protection ministry, as Elftherios Venizelos was regarded as one of the most secure places in the country.

The chronicle of the cinematic robbery

According to the police, it all started at 4.16pm on Sunday. Of course, there was the phone call on Friday, during which a stranger said there would be some renovation works and two employees of “ERGO” with specific names and identities would come to the airport branch.

So, when the thief entered the bank, told the three employees he is the technician and introduced himself with one of the names mentioned in the call, they let him in. He wore blue overalls, was holding a tool-kit and asked to enter the area where the safe was. When the employees opened the door he threatened them with a gun and asked for the combination. He then put the money into three bags which he kept in the toolkit, tied the employees and left as if nothing had happened.

Holding the bags in his hands, he greeted the officers that were guarding the branch, waited for a taxi and then disappeared.
