UPD:
Details on how the work reserve will be applied were given by Mr. Elias Mosialos today during an informal briefing with reporters.
Mr. Mossialos stated that 10% of the workers in the public sector which will be determined as supernumerary will be moved to other places, also within the wider public sector. Up to 30% will sign fixed-term contracts, while 60% will go into reserve. Mr. Mossialos stated that government will expect a significant salary impact both through reserve employment and the single payroll. He also signified that ERT will also go through the evaluation stage.
The spokesperson clarified that there will be no issue of exiting the Eurozone, while he does not believe that there will be any problem with the sixth installment and that the government is committed to structural changes, and as such he mentioned the example of the reduction in the profit margins of pharmacists, in fuel smuggling and the control of supplementary pensions.
“We will not jeopardize the implementation of the July 21st Agreement”, was the message he wanted to send to all those who reacted.
As for what Health Minister Andreas Loverdos said yesterday on one million public servants impacting the other ten million citizens, Mr. Mosialos commented that Mr. Loverdos gave a general context and noted that there is no intra-government dissent. He added that we are largely a state economy and that the government is aiming for a flexible, productive private sector. He concluded that “total output is not desirable”.
Finally, he described the context in which the prime minister will speak in Thessaloniki. Mr. Papandreou will present where the country stands today and describe reforms, growth patterns, government initiatives, lawfulness and social justice. Mr. Papandreou’s speech will be condensed in the slogan: “we are against shady interests, not society”.
