The full consolidation of public television is proceeding through the State Minister and government spokesman Elias Mossialos’ directives. The comprehensive plan to rationalize state television will be announced by Mr. Mosialos on Friday at a press conference taking place at 11 am.
According to what has become known thus far, and as was hinted at in an interview in PROTO THEMA, Mr. Mosialos will go on to reduce the number of public channels.
Even on Friday Mr. Mosialos is likely to announce the closure of the ET1 TV channel. The ET3 channel will be upgraded; it will provide an alternative type of media, which will focus on news from the rest of Greece and culture.
According to the same information, ET1’s assets will be shared by the other two channels. The frequency, as Mr. Mosialos stated in his interview in PROTO THEMA, will remain a "property of the Greek people."
Mr. Mosialos thereby aims to aid the state budget by reducing the annual costs for the operation of public broadcasting.
