Traffic jams on national highways

The inconvenience for travelers is immense, since kilometers-long queues have been formed by cars in Amfilochia and Rio, due to heavy traffic caused by the mass “exodus” for the August 15th celebrations.

Specifically, in the Amfilochia junction the traffic queue is eight kilometers long due to the circular direction of the road.

Also, before the toll station of Rio the queue exceeds two kilometers, albeit with signs of letting up soon.

The holiday makers need to be particularly patient, since they may not avoid the discomfort of the traffic jams along most of the country’s national highway network.

Traffic in ports and airports is also increased for the August 15th celebrations. Traffic Police have taken extraordinary measures to facilitate travelers on motorways.

At the port of Piraeus, traffic is increased while ships are departing at 100% occupancy. It is estimated that tourist traffic  this weekend will be at the same levels as last year.

Specifically, there are twenty nine planned routers for the Aegean islands and Crete. Seventeen more have been planned for Saturday departing from Rafina. In parallel, especially for the day of August 15th, there are twenty seven ships departing from Piraeus, seventeen from the Rafina port and eight from Lavrio.

In total, since August 1st and until yesterday, 363.794 passengers had departed from the Piraeus port, while last year throughout August 928.948 passengers had been through the port.
