Trying to shrink, if not erase, the “list of shame” which includes 7,000 drug recorded drug addicts in the country, is one of the immediate goals of the Ministry of Health.

This Thursday afternoon, the Minister of Health Andreas Loverdos announced that the first phase of the plan is for 28 of Methadone Units to operate at 28 hospitals in the region of Attica from September 16th.
The Minister admitted that the drug problem in Greece is becoming bigger without any dynamic intervention. “We cannot root out the problem of drug abuse immediately, but we can really try to deal with it. Since 2004 the numbers have increased rapidly, from 2,500 to 7,000 drug addicts, and we need to counter this problem”.
