Venizelos - The "key" man for the Finance Ministry

The critical processes for the reformation are in progress, with Evangelos Venizelos becoming a key person for the new government scheme. Information indicates that Giorgos Papandreou proposed that Mr. Venizelos become the deputy prime minister, as well as the Finance minister but the latter seems to have refused.

However, there is no issue with Lucas Papademos, who gave a negative response to the proposal by the Prime Minister and proceeded to take the phone off the hook so that he is not tracked down by the government during Wednesday afternoon!

If, however, Mr. Venizelos is unwilling to take on the Finance Ministry, the position will be up for grabs by Anna Diamantopoulou and Michalis Chrisohoidis.

There will be a deputy position on the matter of privatization within the economy team, with Elena Panariti as the most likely candidate.

Theodoros Pagkalos seems to be out of the government permanently, while the scenario about a secondary deputy prime minister is also open. The most likely candidate for this position seems to be Dimitris Reppas, who is also eligible for the Defense Ministry. Giorgos Papakonstantinou is being moved to the Foreign Affairs ministry or the Defense Ministry, if Mr. Venizelos is removed. Mr. Papakonstantinou is also eligible for the Environment Ministry. Tina Birbili is withdrawn from the cabinet.

In the aforementioned concept, Harris Pampoukis is also removed, while Pavlos Geroulanos is transferred from the Culture and Tourism Ministry to the position of State Minister in charge of communication policy.

The favorite for the Ministry of Culture and Tourism is Kostas Scandalidis, although some are suggesting Louka Katseli.

Andreas Loverdos, besides his current post as Health Minister, will also assume the position of head of social security.

Petros Efthimiou seems a certainty in the new government, either in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Press Ministry, if Giorgos Petalotis is moved. Kostas Kartalis is also eligible for a government position.
