Police car snatched right from within the officers' grasp

A strange incident involving two injured police officers and a stolen police car has been going on since 7 in the afternoon, causing concern to the Greek police about the motives of the perpetrators.

Although the identities of the perpetrators are yet unclear, investigations have been taken over by Police forces, with the Counterterrorism unit discreetly monitoring and waiting for the testimony of the two injured officers in order to shed some more light to the case.

It all began five minutes after 7 when a stranger called Emergency Response and complained that at the junction of Aiolou and Epikourou streets in Pefki a few people were harassing passersby.

A police vehicle rushed to the spot, immediately coming into the line of fire right as both policemen opened their car doors.

The officers retaliated, injuring the perpetrator. “We are probably talking about an ambush. It was fortuitous that we have no victims. At least five bullets hit the officers, penetrating their bulletproof vests, which were at least enough to stop the bullets' momentum”.

When the officers fell to the ground wounded, an unknown man –possibly an accomplice- got into the police car and fled through the narrow streets of the area.

Ongoing investigations

A passerby who was wounded in the arm and thigh in the exchange  of shots has been transported to the Red Cross hospital. He has undergone surgery and is currently intubated. His situation is non-critical.
