The municipality of Oropos, one of the areas affected by the bitter toll policy, is filing the first appeal, questioning the constitutionality of Reppas’ law that makes the non-payment a violation of the driving code.
The cause was the imposition of an administrative fine to mayor Giannis Oikonomakos himself, which was submitted on March 19 after his refusal to pay the fare at the Afidnes station.
Oikonomakos filed an appeal before the First Instance Court, arguing that imposing tolls and fines on residents of the municipality is against our Constitution and EU law. At the same time, an appeal was submitted to the CoS in order for it to consider the case directly.
The mayor of Oropos has maintained that there are 8 tall stations in the new Kallikratean municipality and that the average annual cost of paying the fares for local residents rises to 3.000 euros.
He has also said that this is damaging to the tourism of the area, since the alternative side roads remain in third-world condition. “Once, the national motorway was for NE Attica what Mesogeion is for Athens”.
Three months ago Oikonomakos had asked for a meeting with Infrastructure minister Dimitris Reppas, in order to present his arguments for the elimination of the stations. However, to this day the mayor has not accepted the request.
