Papaconstantinou seeks another loan extension

The issue of a new extension of the loan of 110 billion has been brought up by the Finance Minister.

Mr. George Papaconstantinou, commenting on statements in the French newspaper “Liberation”, confirmed that “we will consider a loan extension”, stating that there has been no request from our country to restructure the overall national debt.

Since Greece has shown that it has failed to improve its finances, it would be useful at a future time to make a new decision on the extension of the repayment time of the 110 billion, within the logic of an even better resolution of the Troika debt.

Speaking to a French newspaper, Mr. Papaconstantinou reiterated that the Greek debt is sustainable and that there is no restructuring.

“There are people who think (restructuring) is inevitable, but there are those who have bet a lot of money on the failure of Greece. This explains the ridiculous amount of rumors in recent days”, he stated.

He appeared adamant against the possibility of Greek debt restructuring during the presentation of the three-year plan to combat tax evasion.
