It seems the impact from the damage at the Mornos canal, with a crack
spanning 100 meters, is more serious than originally estimated. After
the on-site inspection by EYDAP teams, the situation is as follows:
- Landslides, probably due to the rainfall in the region, have caused the damage on a part of the canal that carries water from Mornos. The section of the canal, which is completely detached, stretches for about 30 meters, while extensive damage has been caused to another part of the canal, about 70 meters long.
- All water transfer from the Mornos reservoir to the transport canall has stopped, along with the flowing of water from the surrounding areas.
- EYDAP technicians have set up the network for the transfer of water from Yliki and Marathon lakes to the processing plants (refineries) in order to keep up the continuous water supply to the urban area of the capital.
- The technical work for the temporary restoration of the damage in the channel has already started, by placing a large metal pipe, and is expected to be finished within the next few days. At the same time, work has begun for the permanent restoration of the damage.
