Tax revenue for March has ranged at lower levels than anyone could expect, and instead of recovering and filling the 9,5% gap of the first two months, it is now in a free fall of around 20%...

This negative conclusion emerged during a meeting at the Finance ministry with the directors of the largest tax authorities of the country, where the blocking of the collecting mechanisms was ascertained.

Especially, the tax offices of PLCs show a drop of 17% in Athens and 18% in Thessaloniki.

According to estimates, the situation can improve by the end of the month or during April, but will not be amended in time, which increases the pressure on the government for rescue measures for the budget and the memorandum.

In fact, rumor has it that some anxious tax directors have frozen VAT returns or are not clearing the tax statements in order to preserve fictitiously the image of their office.

However, the leadership of the Finance Ministry criticized them for their tactics, because the memorandum includes a term which asserts that the state should not delay its debts to individuals for more than 90 days.
