“We are ready to offer our contribution, together with fellow Europeans and allies, in order to guarantee that the international laws are still in force” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr.Droutsas, who had a meeting with Minister of Defense Mr.Evangelos Venizelos today.
With such a statement, Mr.Droutsas is aligning Greece with the decisions NATO and the EU will announce soon. He added that “Greece thinks that our primary goal should be to find a solution for the Libyan crisis and reinstate democracy and stability through dialogue. This should be the goal and this is the demand of the international community, the Arabic Committee and the African Union. It is not too late.”
At 15.30 this afternoon there will be a meeting between the Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister and the Defense Minister. At 6.00 there will be a meeting of the National Council of Foreign Affairs, where Mr. Droutsas will inform everyone on upcoming developments.
Governement sources say that Greece does not plan to participate in the military action since our position is not clear yet. The most probable scenario is that our country will aid other countries that will take part in the military action against Libya according to its obligation.
