Heavy winter and dangerous weather phenomena from Thursday
The weather will present rapid deterioration from early Thursday according to the special report for extreme weather phenomena issued by HNMS.

Driving rain and storms are predicted for the Ionian that by the night will be affecting almost the entire country except for the northeast. These phenomena will start from the Ionian (Lefkada and southwards) and southwestern Peloponnisos and by noon will have expanded to the rest of Peloponnisos, the western and central mainland, north Evia, Thessaly (east and south mainly) and the southern parts of western and central Macedonia. In the afternoon they will gradually affect Sporades, the rest of the mainland (including Attica), Cyclades, Crete (mainly south), eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese.
By evening, the bad weather will recede in the west and so on Friday morning, the phenomena will occur in eastern Thessaly, the eastern mainland and Evia, eastern Peloponnese, Cyclades, Dodecanese, Crete, and will gradually weaken there as well.
Meanwhile, heavy snow is predicted in intervals in all mountainous areas but also in the lowlands, mainly in the north. The winds in the high seas will blow at 8B and locally 9B in the Aegean.
During the early morning hours of Friday extreme phenomena will occur in east Thesaly, the eastern mainaland, east Peloponnisos and Cyclades, but will gradually weaken there too.
The General Secretariat for Civil Protection calls for the attention of people during the weekend and recommends taking the following actions:
- Check the downspouts of their houses (roofs, balconies, terraces, etc.) and ensure their smooth operation.
- Avoid unnecessary movements.
