Schäuble: Greece has not done much - Do not worry, we do not help by force

The German Finance Minister replied to a question about Greece with an ironic tone - Berlin is pushing for an agreement with the troika

Replying to a question regarding the disbursement of the next tranche for Greece, German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble appeared ironic and judgmental.

"Do not worry, we will not give financial aid by force, if someone does not want it," Schäuble replied inter alia to the question of Greek journalist Pantelis Valasopoulos.

Initially Schäuble refused to answer the question whether Germany and the troika seek to issue a new loan for Greece and therefore sign a new memorandum, arguing that this was irrelevant to the press conference he gave Wednesday, but eventually agreed to do this in the spirit of European solidarity.

"We dealt with Greece a lot in the last Eurogroup. We studied the interim report of the troika and found that Greece has not fulfilled what was agreed. I know that there things are not simple in Greece. But Greece must fulfill what was agreed, otherwise the tranche will not be disbursed," the German minister replied.

Schäuble's caustic comments come just two days after the Eurogroup on Monday that indirectly gave time to Greece to reach an agreement with the troika.
