Halkidiki is made of three separate peninsulas: Kassandra with the nightlife being the closest one to Thessaloniki and the most developed. Sithonia a more virgin place full of wonderfull beaches and, of course, the famous Mount Athos one of the most important center of Orthodox Christianity, accessible only by boat and open to male pilgrims only.
