The "mongrels" of Thodoros Pagkalos!

The "mongrels" of Thodoros Pagkalos!

Three appointments to his office just before the elections

 The "mongrels" of Thodoros Pagkalos!
It is true that we have heard a lot lately about Thodoros Pagkalos, the uncontrollable vice president of the government, who has never really considered the weight of his words.

And while he has been talking about “favors” and “mongrels” in the Public sector, protothema.gr today reveals hree appointments that he interestingly made on the eve of the elections (all in 4 days), in which his wife, Ms Christofaki, was a candidate. These appointments, according to our information, stem from family ties relating to his wife's area of interest, and point to no apparent connection with the vice presidency of the government, at least as far as their qualifications and areas of experise are concerned.

Teacher of French Literature

More specifically, it is noteworthy that on 8/10/2010, protocol no 2796, Pagkalos appointed Ms Fotini Siafaka to his office. One would expect that she had a doctorate or some academic connection with the business of governing. However, and as the appointment papers state, she is a teacher of French language and literature. What is her role then as a revocable servant? Could she possibly have acquired some secretarial skills during her studies?

Architect

A second strange appointment came on 4/10/2010, prot. no 2726, and was that of architect Mrs Alkisti Paraskevi Rodi as a special partner, who took up a position in University Education with a PhD. But how does an architect contribute to the smooth running of the government? Wouldn’t she be more appropriate at the ministry of Infrastructure, or better yet in her own office so we as tax-paying citizens wouldn’t have to pay her? In any case, her post at a purely political office justifiably arouses interest.

Lawyer

Finally three days later, on 7/10/2010 Pagkalos appointed another “mongrel” – excuse us, we meant public servant, but his own terms confused us. It’s the lawyer, without a doctorate if you please, Georgia Gergi, appointed to the post of special partner. Now, why it is that so many hundreds of lawyers with doctorates and dissertations do not fit in the big office of the vice president and an individual unknown to legal circles found her way in is a question which the eloquent Pagkalos should answer.

Once again he did his own bidding

We must stress here that Pagkalos once again did his own bidding without calculating costs and consequences, acting against the order of Papandreou, the PM himself, to avoid a wave of appointments prior to the elections.

821.000 euros in expenditures

At any rate, the allocation of budget appropriations for 2011 for the office of Pagkalos is also impressive. Thus, we observe that large sums for «performance incentives» (what does this mean exactly?) have already been approved, 31.000 for graphic materials only, 26.475 for computers and 12.350 for new furniture; all this for an office that had already been equipped with the latest technology at the end of 2009. Total expenditure – excluding wage payments,  which are equally high – reaches 821.00 euros.
