Obama-Sarkozy meeting in January

The White House announced yesterday, Friday, that French president Nikola Sarkozy will visit Washington to meet with Barak Obama on January 10.

“I can confirm” the visit of the French president, stated the White House representative Tommy Vietor, without disclosing any more details.

The French state had announced on Thursday that Sarkozy will visit the capital of the USA to discuss issues that will be brought up in the G8 and G20 summits in 2011.

France will preside over the G20 forum – the 20 most powerful economies – and in 2011 it will chair the G8, the group of the eight major western industrial countries plus Russia and Japan.

Obama is on a 10-day vacation in Hawaii and is to return to Washington in the beginning of January. He met Sarkozy in Lisbon in November, but this forthcoming meeting will be the first since WikiLeaks made public hundreds of thousands of classified USA wires, some of which outlined the French president as a “deeply” pro-American politician; others dealt with his character, describing him as a touchy and erratic partner, and his personal life, which was described as complicated.
