New Health Insurance for all insured

All insured Greeks will be under the auspices of the entire Organisation of Health Services (that will be its name), and that includes pensioners of IKA - ETAM, OGA OAEE, OPAD and the Seamen's Organisation. Apart from the health insurance organisations, the ESY (NAtional Health System) and all doctors in the provinces will be included.

Health Minister Mr. Loverdos made the announcements at the ministers council this Friday. The legislation allows a small window for other persons or public and private organisations to be included. The main goal of the new unified NHS will be to use all health services as well as machines, hospitals, equipment and so on to the maximum, whilst forging collaborations with outside organisations that will benefit the NHS instead of burdening it with extra costs. That includes changes in supplies laws (one of the biggest problems relating to fiscal corruption in Greece) that will be enforced in 2012.

Especially for pharmacies, the Minister clarified that they are "normalising" the profession, but that does not mean drugs will become products to be found in a super market. Furthermore, all pharmaceutical industries will have to reutrn 4% of their total income to the government.
