Egypt sentences a Muslim Brotherhood leader and 682 others to death
An Egyptian court has sentenced to death on Monday 683 supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsi, including one of his Muslim Brotherhood movement leaders, Mohamed Badie.

The 682 Morsi supporters were accused of attacking a police station last year. Of these, 50 are in custody, while others have been released on bail or remain uncaught.

Mohammed Badie is a high ranking leader of the Muslim Brotherhood movement, which has won all elections since the public uprising against Hosni Mubarak in early 2011, before being declared a "terrorist organization" again in December.

The same court in Minya reversed the death sentences passed in March, replacing the capital punishment to life in prison for most supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood, who were accused of participating in violent protests in this city of central Egypt, on August 14. On the same day, 700 Islamist protesters were killed by the bullets of the Egyptian security troops.

For the 37 sentenced to death by the trial of 700 in March, the penalty must be carried out by the Mufti, Islam's representative before the State.
