Golden Dawn immunity waiving to be discussed on Wednesday
In Parliament
The Parliamentary assembly will be moving full throttle in the next two weeks, since, outside four bills accompanied by several amendments, which will have to be voted by May 9th, the House will have to decide for waiving immunity of Golden Dawn MPs.
According to reports, on Wednesday, there will be a discussion on the requests for waiving concerning Artemis Mattheopoulos, Chrisovalantis Alexopoulos, Polivios Zisimopoulos, Antonis Gregos and Kostas Barbarousis in order to be prosecuted for the offense of setting up and directing a criminal organization. Moreover, according to parliamentary officials, the House's legal service has given an initial response on whether there can be a cancellation of the process if the plenary is not attended by the detained Golden Dawn MPs during the discussion of the requests for waiving their immunity.
The same sources mention that the House should ask for a hearing of these MPs, but it is a matter of the prisons Advocate on whether or not they will be attending. If the advocate refuses to give them permission then the process will rely solely on the explanations that the detainees gave to the Ethics Committee when the latter visited them in Korydallos prison.
Additionally, if GD members do not wish to give additional explanations then they will be given the opportunity to submit a written statement.
