The National Archaeological Museum is the largest museum in Greece and one of the world's great museums

National Archaeological Museum
Its original purpose was to host and secure all the finds discovered from the nineteenth century excavations in the area of Athens, but it gradually became the central National Archaeological Museum and included finds from all over Greece. Its collections provide a panorama of Greek civilization from the beginnings of Prehistory to Late Antiquity.

The National Archaeological Museum houses many permanent and periodical exhibitions extended on each floor of the museum including “The Prehistoric Collection”, “The Sculptures Collection”, “The Vase and Minor Objects Collection”, the “Stathatos Collection”, “The Metallurgy Collection”, the “Egyptian and Near Eastern Antiquities Collection”.

Thousand of tourists visit the National Archaeological Museum every year. Besides displaying its own treasures, it also helds temporary exhibitions and lends artefacts to exhibitions both in Greece and abroad. 

The National  Archaeological Museum is located in the centre of Athens and can be accessed by metro and buses.
