Ammochostos was the main topic of the Anastasiadis – Rubin meeting
The U.S. State Secretary for Foreign Affairs said that the goal of the U.S. is to “help meeting the needs and expectations of both sides in order to establish the necessary confidence”
The main topic of the meeting between the President of the Cyprus Republic Nikos Anastasiadis and the State Secretary for Foreign Affairs was the Ammochostos issue and lasted about an hour.
Mr. Rubin said the goal of the U.S. is supportive function to " find ways to help meet the needs and expectations of both sides on confidence-building measures that may be ` start to show real chance for progress.".
He added that “Our role is not to participate in the whole process but rather to support, therefore we hope to create some mechanisms to support some programs”.
He also expressed the hope that the U.S. will not be alone in this endeavor, but to receive the support of EU and others.
Speaking after the meeting, the Cypriot Government Spokesman Christos Stylianidis said that the issue of Ammochostos was the main topic of discussions. However, he said that at this stage he does not wish to make any announcements.
