Workers of the intercity trains and the Proastiakos suburban railway threaten to continue the strike during Ester holidays.
The Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNO) will join the stike, too. Therefore, the ferry services are to be suspended, too.
Hospitals will be operating on skeleton staff as doctors and nurses join the 24-hour strike. Pharmacies will also close for the day. Teachers, prison staff and court staff are scheduled to join the strike, causing disruption to scheduled trials.
Air-traffic controllers had initially announced that they will participate in the strike, but following their meeting with Minister of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks, Michalis Chrisochoidis, decided not to join the strike.
The protest rally is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at central Klafthmonos Square and culminate with a march on Parliament. An hour earlier, the Communist-affiliated labor union PAME will hold its protest rally at Omonia Square.
