French media: Why they view Segolene's appointment as "manna from heaven"

The appointment as Minister of Hollande's former mistress is consideered as... manna from heaven, by French media, according to “Closer” magazine, who characteristically indicates that magazine editors will be gleeful on the multitudes of things they will be able to write.

At the same time “Le Figaro” newspaper is trying to outline the framework of a professional cohabitation of a former couple, meaning how exactly French president Francois Hollande will be able to cooperate with his former lover of 30 years in the office. The French newspaper is posing the question whether this is an advantage or a disadvantage.

“It is a constant fight to control their feelings, whatever they may be: jealousy, lust or competition, that must be stopped by both in order to make their lives easier”, underlined “Le Figaro”.

For “Liberation” and “Le Monde” newspapers, Segolene Royal who was an effective and popular president of her old area during the last ten years, she will have to, now, step down and work fully in the super-ministry of Ecology and Energy that she was appointed to by the Valls government.

At the same time “Le Parisien” states that yesterday's inaugural Prime Ministerial speech drew all of France to their TV screens. Over 7 million Frenchmen watched Manuel Valls on TF1, who stated that his government bears the Hollande seal and that the fact that he took over does not bring him at odds with the one he succeeds.

On his part, the “Green party”'s leader, Francois de Rugy critically commented the composition of the new government and stressed that “the ministries now include all the 'good ole boys'” and that the only one missing is Dominique Strauss-Kahn.
