Ten jailers tortured the Albanian murderer in Nigrita prison
Warden and unionist Antonis Aravantinos spoke out, naming names, on the tortures that Ilya Kareli received in Nigrita prison.
As he stated, during the Hellenic Police Internal Affairs investigation, the chairman of penitentiary employees Charis Konsolides “broke” and admitted to hitting and torturing the 42 year-old criminal within Nigrita prison.
According to Aravantinos, Mr. Konsolides revealed to police that 9 more prison jailers took part in the torture. The head of the investigation immediately called these men to account for their actions. Seven of them refused taking any part, and 2 admitted that they beat the prisoner. The latter, though, refused to name any more names.
Mr. Aravantinos also revealed that Mr. Konsolides, upon hearing of the news of his impending arrest tried to take his own life. He even reportedly called his wife to apologize before doing so. He was saved by his coworkers, and was afterward admitted into the Serres psychiatric clinic.
After the revelations, there is tumult in Nigrita's prison, and everyone is awaiting for arrest warrants to be issued.
