Merkel’s close associate: Europe must support Greece
European People's Party president and Merkel's close associate Manfred Weber told the Europeans to support and provide the necessary assistance to Greece
European People's Party vice president Manfred Weber stood on the very good work done by the Greek government and said that "there is an overall European responsibility to resolve the crisis"
European People's Party president and Merkel's close associate Manfred Weber told the Europeans to support and provide the necessary assistance to Greece.
Weber, who represents the German Christian Social Union in the European Parliament said in an interview on the internet TV ANA-MPA that Europe should help anyone in need, like Cyprus, but should be primarily focused on Greece.
"Whoever sees Greece understands that there is a major crisis and everyone should understand that this is one of the upcoming challenges not only for Greece. There is a great responsibility in Athens, everybody knows it, but I think this government is doing a very good job. But now there is an overall European responsibility to resolve the crisis and take decisions."
He added that "for the next 5 years the biggest challenge and the frontispiece of the proposals of the People’s Party is the creation of jobs and growth. We need jobs and growth in the EU and there is a 100% responsibility on national governments to implement the necessary steps to boost growth, remove obstacles created by the bureaucracy, etc. and activate the economy."
For the criticality of the European elections Weber said "there are important national responsibilities, because in Germany the Socialists have a different approach than the Liberals. In Italy we have the approach of the Socialists and the Conservatives, and the same applies throughout Europe. Everyone will have to decide whether we will have a socialist or christian democratic leadership in Europe. And in complete honesty I have to say that History has shown us there are great difficulties, particularly in those countries that had a socialist government. Therefore, I support any strong national approach, I support the approach of the European People's Party, that is the world that should decide. I believe that the future of Europe cannot be decided in Berlin, but by the voters in the European elections."
