Samaras supports Juncker for the presidency of the European Commission
EPP will take the final decision on the nomination next week in Dublin
Prime Minister Antonis Samaras had a telephone conversation yesterday with Jean-Claude Juncker with the Luxembourg politician asking the Greek premier to be one of the two that will suggest him for the unction of the European People's Party's nomination for President of the European Commission.
Samaras accepted the request and so, even within the day Juncker can officially announce his candidacy.
The final decision will be taken at the general meeting of the EPP next week in Dublin (6 and 7 March), in which Samaras will also participate.
Government sources said that within two years, from being depreciated, Greece has come to be taken seriously, as also shown by the fact that the Greek PM was one of those who collectively decided placing Mario Monti in the head of the EU's own resources group and subsequently Juncker for the unction of the EPP candidacy for the position of President of the European Commission.
