Eurostat spokesman Tim Allen notes the satisfaction of Eurostat's cooperation with the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) speaking to the Athens News Agency.

Replying to the relevant question, Allen states: "The current situation in the relations between Eurostat and the Hellenic Statistical Authority has nothing to do with the past. ELSTAT has made significant improvements with respect to the collection of financial data." He added that from October 2010 Eurostat has published seven reports on the Greek deficit and debt, without any reservation.

Asked to comment on whether Greece is poised to achieve or not the primary surplus target for 2013, he answered that Eurostat is unable to comment, pointing out that all Member-States will send data for their 2013 debt and deficit at the end of March and Eurostat will publish them on April 23.

Finally, when asked about Eurostat’s contribution to the quarterly reviews by Troika on the implementation of the Greek adjustment program, Allen said that Troika is based on Eurostat data and that beyond this, Eurostat has absolutely no involvement in the assessment of the Troika.
