Wolfgang Schäuble heralds new loan to Greece
It will be smaller than what has been granted until now - Decisions will be taken in the middle of the year
In an interview to financial paper Wirtschaftswoche German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble said that a new loan to Greece seems very likely. "Upon completion of this program, which progresses with success, there may be further financial need."
As he clarified, this loan, for which "we will know more in mid-2014," will be smaller than what has been granted so far, and will depend on whether Greece has met its obligations.
Schäuble sees positive figures from Greece, referring to a statement by the Greek Foreign Minister Ev. Venizelos, according to which there will not be a need for a new aid program and the country will manage without it.
This reference to Greece was in response to a question about funding the early retirement of a group of workers in Germany.
Schäuble also said that the Greek people are forced to accept significant constraints, reminding that last year Greece achieved its best tourist season in years.
