Greece has much room for improvement in the number of ongoing clinical investigations. Approximately 150 to 250 clinical studies are being approved each year, while 600 others are underway, according to figures presented by EOF (National Organization for Medicines) President Demetris Lintzeris during a conference.

From 2006 until 2013 about 920 interventional clinical studies were adopted and have been or are being carried out. Lintzeris pointed also at the scientific and developmental interest of the sector of generic and biosimilar medicines and their corresponding clinical research.

"In an effort to increase the penetration of generics the confirmation and restoration of their credibility is the cornerstone and will have a key role in the success or not of that objective," Lintzeris said, admitting, however, the slow progress being made due to the complexity of administrative structures of the Greek healthcare system.

The EOF President announced the creation of working group on the subject of clinical studies and issued an open invitation to every interested party in order to participate and express their opinions.
