Greek parliament: Two-year stoppage in persecuting administrations of agricultural cooperatives

The Development Ministry accepted a parliamentary amendment, proposing the prosecution suspension of administrations of rural cooperatives be increased to two years, passed with the provisions for auctions voted Saturday. The text was signed by MPs of New Democracy and PASOK and information says that strong pressure is exerted on the leadership of the ministry to make it acceptable. Eventually, the arrangement was accepted and announced at dawn Saturday.
The authors admit the provided suspension of prosecutions, but argue that this is not a scandal. They explain that the State has initiated prosecutions for debts of cooperatives against certain administrations. As a result there are no tax and social security obligations, necessary for the liquidation that has to be done in these cooperatives.
They add that the suspension of prosecution will bring the clearances and within four months the cooperatives will be liquidated. Then it will be possible to activate the prosecutions.
