Eurobarometer: 62% of Greeks want the euro

Although Greece is in its sixth year of recession, Greeks are in favor of maintaining the common currency by 62%, while the support of European citizens of the eurozone countries in the common currency has increased remarkably. Meanwhile, most Greeks are particularly pessimistic about the future of the EU.
 
According to the data recorded by the latest Eurobarometer, 63% of citizens of member-states in the economic and monetary union are in favor of the euro with the highest rates recorded in Luxembourg with 79%, Finland 75%, Belgium 74% and Germany 71%. The only country with a negative rate of acceptance of the euro is Cyprus, where 52% of citizens are against the common currency.
 
According to the Eurobarometer European citizens believe that the major problems of the EU are unemployment, economic situation and debt. Most of them believe the solution to the economic problems can be given by the EU itself and not by the governments of the member-states.
 

European conscience

 
About six out of ten Europeans say they "feel Europeans" with the highest rates recorded in Luxembourg 85%, Malta 74% and Germany 73%, while the lowest rates were in Greece with 42%, UK 42% and Cyprus 46%.
 
Citizens consider the free movement of people and goods, peace between member-states and the common currency as the biggest benefits of their EU.
