WHO: "Sorry, typo" about Greeks deliberately injecting themselves with AIDS
WHO rebuts broadcast on a report that the Greeks inject themselves with HIV virus to get 700-euro benefit
"The people in Greece do not inject themselves to get the benefit," World Health Organization (WHO) says in relevant tweet, rushing to misclassify the news around the internet saying the Agency reported that a large percentage of Greeks seem to inject themselves with the HIV virus in order to claim the 700 per month benefit.
In it's Twitter account, WHO says it was a typographical error in its report for Europe and states that there will be a full announcement on the subject to be posted today on the Organization’s webpage.
Earlier, as the English version of Al Jazeera broadcasted, the WHO report read that nearly half of new infections of HIV in Greece are caused by the people themselves as the Greeks are tested by the deep economic crisis.

Earlier, as the English version of Al Jazeera broadcasted, the WHO report read that nearly half of new infections of HIV in Greece are caused by the people themselves as the Greeks are tested by the deep economic crisis.
‘The rates of HIV and heroin use have increased significantly, with about half of all new HIV infections being self-inflicted,’ Al Jazeera said citing the report.
WHO also expresses its concerns about the suicide rate in Greece that has skyrocketed while the access to Health services has declined and stresses the need to find an immediate solution. ‘These negative trends in Greece are a warning to other countries in considerable fiscal austerity, like Spain, Ireland and Italy.’
Homicides and thefts have doubled, while prostitution has increased due to the crisis, WHO adds.
