Staikouras: We claim debt relief with clear terms

"We will claim the factual contribution of our partners for debt relief as soon as possible and in clear terms. We are drafting financial techniques to enable a return to the markets in 2014," Deputy Finance Minister Christos Staikouras said in parliament earlier.
 
He listed a series of economic policy performances adding that the main objective is to maintain primary surpluses that "for 2014 will be achieved through structural changes. We aim to stabilize the economy in 2013, restore it in 2014 and achieve sustainable development in the following years to strengthen investment and exports. Fiscal consolidation and discipline are not sufficient conditions themselves to exit the crisis, as we need development initiatives as well."
 
Staikouras denounced the opposition saying that while the country is at a crossroads "there is a contest of misery from SYRIZA with aphorisms and generalities, unfortunately without substantive responses and suggestions. Unfortunately because the criticality of our time requires the commitment of all creative forces. There is no room for extreme approaches. We have taken our share of responsibility and now it is time to do so yourselves."
